Richard E. Scott


Richard E. Scott, 69, of rural Camden, passed away at 2:35 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his loving family, after a brief battle with cancer.

He was born Dec. 16, 1953, in Logansport, to James and Joan Wise Scott. He married Patsy A. Russell Maynard in Delphi, on Aug. 29, 1998; she survives.

Richard was a 1972 graduate of Delphi Community High School and received his B.S. degree in Industrial Management from Purdue University in 1976.

Richard farmed with his brother, Steve, and nephew, Jason, in Carroll and Cass counties, as Scott Bro’s., Inc. He loved to farm and be outside working around his home or checking fields or hanging out in the shop, tinkering with equipment.

Richard was a member of the Logansport Church of the Brethren. He enjoyed Purdue University men’s sports. He loved to tell stories, even if you didn’t understand it in true “dad” fashion and had a great sense of humor.

Family was everything to Richard, and he dearly loved them all. He loved to host family gatherings at his home and loved all of his grandchildren.

Surviving with his wife, Patsy A. Scott of Camden are a daughter, Amanda Scott  (Brent Polzin) of Burrows; a brother, Steve Scott (Tink) of Camden; a sister, Susan Trueblood (Bill) of Camden; stepchildren,  Jenny McCarty (Brent) of Chattanooga, Tenn., Carrie Maynard (Ed Frederici) of Carmel, Bill Maynard (Jamie) of Fortville, and Jess Maynard  (Meagan) of West Lafayette,; and grandchildren, Brady Polzin, Isaac McCarty, Piper and Chase Axline, Drew, Tyler and Josie Maynard, Boston and Griffin Maynard; and nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 4, from 2:30 p.m. until the time of his funeral service at 4:30 p.m. at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi. Pastor Arron Gross will officiate. Disposition of his ashes will be private for family.
