Probationary Trooper DEXTER WHITTEN reported for duty Tuesday at the Indiana State Police Post in Lafayette. He is one of three new troopers reporting to District 14 following graduation from the 73rd Indiana State Police Recruit Academy which took place on May 1. There were 47 new troopers who reported to their districts of assignment.

Whitten begins 12 weeks of field training where he will be paired with experienced troopers specially trained to serve as Field Training Officers. Upon successful completion of the field training program, he will be issued his own police car and begin solo patrol responsibilities.

Whitten grew up in Tippecanoe County and attended Jefferson High School. After receiving his G.E.D, he attended Ivy-Tech College in Lafayette before joining the Army National Guard in 2008. He will be patrolling the north zone which encompasses White, Carroll, Clinton and Tippecanoe counties. He resides in West Lafayette.
