Delphi’s varsity football team manhandled the Taylor Titans 60-6 on Friday night in what marked the sixth victory of the season on the Oracles’ senior night.

The Oracles roll into next week’s sectional matchup against Lewis Cass (3-5) with a two-game win streak after a 34-26 three-overtime victory in week eight against Clinton Central.

For Jacob Mroczkiewicz, head coach of the Oracles, the regular season finale was important on many levels other than just another “W” in the win column.

“We really wanted to make sure we showcased those seniors who have been a part of our program,” Mroczkiewicz said. “This group of seniors is one that had stayed relatively intact throughout their youth league years. … I’ve always been very proud of this group and luckily we were able to send them off the right way with a lot of points going up on the board against Taylor.

Kooper Kinsler put Delphi on the board for the first time Friday night with a rushing touchdown, one of four for the senior as he finished the evening with 151 yards on the ground for 10 carries.

Later in the contest, Josh Hartley found his way into the end zone after a 66-yard reception, his only one of the night, for Delphi’s fourth TD of the game.

Delphi allotted just 103 yards receiving in the win on three receptions but its use of attacking through the air was not needed against the Titans as the Oracles went 359 yards rushing.

“We knew we’d be able to control the line of scrimmage against Taylor. We had the right angles to do what we wanted to do to the certain sides of the sets we were running that week. We just wanted to set the one early and kind of punch them in the mouth from the get-go,” Mroczkiewicz said.

Luis Sanchez tallied 93 yards and one touchdown on eight carries in Delphi’s win.

Mroczkiewicz now turns his focus to Lewis Cass as the Oracles look to vanquish their three-season drought in post season play.

Mroczkiewicz highlighted how the Oracles will try to take advantage of Cass’s inability to get its offense going while noting that Cass and Delphi are similar in terms of play style.

“Lewis Cass is a pretty evenly matched team to us,” Mroczkiewicz said. “We’re not overlooking them by any stretch of the imagination. I think that they’re a young team that’s starting to click under Coach Mannering.”

“It’s funny, in preparing for this team, it’s kind of like preparing for ourselves. We like to do a lot of the same things that Cass does on both sides of the ball and our kids have seen what they want to run dating all the way back to June when we installed our own offense and defense.”

The Kings’ team averages 12 points a game on offense while giving up 35 points on defense.

Delphi will host Cass on Friday at 7 p.m.
