Local Drug Free group accepting mini-grant apps




The local drug free group, “Partnership for a Drug Free Carroll County” is accepting applications for mini-grants for projects which will address: • Education and/or prevention – programs aimed at preventing alcohol abuse and other drug use in groups who are not currently using alcohol and/or other drugs), •Intervention and/or treatment – programs focusing on methods of intervention and/or treatment in groups of people using or abusing alcohol and/or other drugs or at a significant known risk of use) or • Law enforcement and/or judicial – programs addressing methods to increase efforts in law enforcement and/or criminal justice aimed at reducing alcohol and other drug use).

A Local Coordinating Council (LCC) will review each application before financial awards are given. Applications must address at least one, if not all, of three problem statements, which are: – Those affected by substance abuse having trouble affording treatment and full continuums of treatment services are not available; – Substance abuse among youth and adults in Carroll County is a continuing problem; and/or – Peers having a significant influence, especially on young people.

Applications for the oneyear funding cycle are due by Nov. 30. Applications will be reviewed at the next LCC meeting following the due date. Voting members of the LCC will discuss completed applications and representatives from the requesting group should be present during the deliberations. Projects may not be fully funded.
