Junto Club celebrates 100 years

The Delphi Chapter of Junto Club celebrated its 100th anniversary on Jan. 31.

Benjamin Franklin originally founded the club in 1726 with 12 members who were tradesmen and artisans. They met each week to discuss issues of morals, politics, or natural philosophy. Members were avid readers and intellectuals involved in their individual improvement and that of society. A branch of the Junto Club, the American Philosophical Society, created in 1743, still exists.

The Delphi Junto Club meets monthly for nourishment, fellowship and intellectual stimulation. There were seven founding members and today the club is comprised of 17 families from Delphi, Brookston, Monticello and West Lafayette.
