County to hold 2nd annual Fallen Officers Blood Drive

The second annual fallen officer’s blood drive will be held not only in the Lafayette District, but throughout the state this month.

On July 10, 2001, Sergeant Dan R. Starnes of the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department lost his life as a result of gunshot wounds sustained during a line of duty gun battle with a burglary suspect four weeks earlier. To keep his legacy alive his surviving spouse Janice organized the Sergeant Dan R. Starnes Memorial Blood Drive in Morgan County later that year and has organized a blood drive each year since then in Dan’s memory. Last year she decided to take the blood drive statewide and renamed it the Indiana Fallen Officers Blood Drive. She set a goal of collecting 1,500 units of blood and that goal was shattered when over 5,000 units were collected.

The second annual Indiana Fallen Officers Blood Drive will be from June 8 through June 21. All 92 Indiana counties have agreed to participate this year.

Carroll County’s Fall Officers Blood Drive will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Wabash & Erie Canal Conference Center in Delphi.

Last year 15,105 people benefited directly from the Indiana Fallen Officers Blood Drive
