The Wabash & Erie Canal association in Delphi is celebrating 50 years since a group of County residents came together and joined in a volunteer effort to create something very beautiful out of something which had become a unsanitary dumping ground.

Half a century which included tens of thousands of volunteer hours, along with contributions, bequests and grants have turned the once unsightly canal into not only the one area of the historic Wabash & Erie Canal which still holds water; but also a place where the young can learn about life in the early days of Indiana.

Volunteer labor has been responsible for the tremendous success of the Canal Park, and if you have some time on your hands, or can help financially, contact them and become a part of history. All of their facilities, including canal boat rides, are available from 1:00 till 4:00 p.m. each Saturday beginning May 25 through Labor Day. They also have facilities for banquets and weddings.
