Expected insurance rate hike stuns council

Carroll County Council members offered department heads the opportunity to address proposed 2009 appropriation concerns to them directly Monday afternoon. Some department leaders took advantage of the opportunity to present their opinions in person and some wrote letters. Budget figures were confirmed by a handful of department heads who attended the session.

EDC urges county to sell acreage to IPC

Carroll County Commissioners took the first step to turn the land around Carroll Manor into money at their Monday morning meeting. A non-binding resolution to begin the process for Indiana Packers Corporation (IPC) to possibly purchase approximately 30 acres around Carroll Manor was approved in a unanimous vote.

Historical Society asks for help in acquiring county artifact

The Carroll County Historical Society and Museum are asking for the public's help in acquiring a rare artifact that is part of Carroll County history. They have been given the opportunity to purchase a wooden "trade sign" that once identified the business of jeweler William Gros in Delphi.

Retired teacher is Flora parade marshal

Georganna Julius, age 91, will be the grand marshal of the Flora Christmas Parade. The parade will be this Saturday, beginning at 12:30 p.m. from Jackson-Lee- Pearson. Georganna is a native of Lizton, but has been part of the Flora community since 1939. She graduated from Purdue University that year and began teaching home economics at Flora High School.

Meeting set for new SR 25 road construction

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announced Tuesday that Walsh Construction Company will conduct a public informational meeting on new road construction on SR 25. Construction will be from one tenth of a mile west of the Norfolk Southern Railroad to four tenths of a mile east of the Tippecanoe and Carroll County line.

Camden resident injured in tree-stand fall

Wayne Fisher, 68, of rural Camden, was flown by Samaritan helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with injuries sustained in a fall from a tree-stand while deer hunting. According to Conservation Officer Todd Pekny, Fisher was not wearing a fall-restraint harness and fell 11 and one-half feet from a homemade stand.

Parade and Santa coming to Flora

Carroll Jr.-Sr High School held its annual Veterans Day Program on Nov. 11, the 90th anniversary of the end of World War I. The original day of honor was known as Armistice Day, created in 1926. In 1954, the day was changed to Veterans Day.

Round-Up grant helps RVAS improve response time

She has been in office for four years and this is the first time she has been directly questioned by the media about bookkeeping issues in her office.
