Bill Stauffer photos Last Friday, the Lady Oracles hosted the Cougars in a contest that had both teams on different sides of success. With Delphi touting a 10-7 record and Carroll holding onto a 3- 15 record overall, it was clear that the Oracles held the advantage in this annual rivalry.

It was all Delphi, all evening, as the Oracles took a decisive 16-3 lead after the first quarter. The hits kept on coming to the Cougars as they were held to just 5 points in the second quarter, falling behind 25-8.

Delphi’s Lillie Smith was the offensive force in the victory as she notched a doubledouble with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Smith also caused numerous Carroll turnovers as she tallied a game high 7 steals. Smith was aided in the scoring column by Karissa Tomson’s 10 points.

The Cougars looked to get out of their offensive funk in the second half, tallying 24 second half total points including 14 in the fourth quarter but the hole they had dug themselves into the first half was too much to overcome. Shooting just 23 percent from the field, the Lady Cougars’ offense could not keep pace with an Oracle team that has averaged over 47 points a game so far this season. Meanwhile, Carroll’s average is 33 points a game this season.

The Lady Oracles pummeled Carroll on the boards, outrebounding their opposition 37-18 while also forcing Carroll into 21 turnovers.

Carroll’s Megan Wagner led the Cougar offense with 10 points while Morgan Viney chipped in with 9. Viney also led the team in rebounds with 7.
