Over the holidays, the Lady Cougars were at Monticello to play a slew of games in the Twin Lakes Holiday Tournament. Facing off against Indianapolis Cathedral, Logansport and Twin Lakes, the 3 win Carroll squad had trouble getting started offensively as they dropped games to Cathedral 62-29, to Logansport 80-32, and finally to host team Twin Lakes 51-36.

In the first round, Carroll scored single digits in 3 of 4 quarters and was pressured into 22 turnovers. Meanwhile, Cathedral hung 36 first half points on the Lady Cougars in a 62-29 rout. Morgan Viney would go on to become Carroll’s leading scorer in the first round loss with 14 points and a team high, 9 rebounds.

It was another rough contest for the Lady Cougars in their second round matchup against a Logansport team that had lost 3 straight coming into the Carroll matchup. The Cougars were on the receiving end of a team that was hungry to snap their losing streak and ultimately thumped Carroll 80- 32. The Cougars struggled to score, mustering 9 points or less in each of 3 quarters. This was coupled with 38 percent shooting from the field and being crushed in the battle of rebounds. Viney and Jade Jackson were the leading offensive contributors in the loss with 16 and 9, respectively. Viney also posted a team-high 10 rebounds.

Finally, in their final matchup of the tourney, Carroll fell to Twin Lakes 51-36. While the Cougar ladies found more success scoring, defensively they slipped up, allowing 27 first half Twin Lake points. The Lady Indians averaged 44 points a game this season and were well above their average in the win over Carroll.

Twin Lakes forced Carroll into 21 turnovers and beat the Cougars in the battle of the boards. A bright spot for the Cougars came when Viney tallied her third double-double in a row with 17 points and 10 rebounds, a team high in both categories. Megan Wagner and Kelsey Hammond both pitched in with 6 points each.

Carroll will host Western on Thursday at 6 p.m. and will also travel to Clinton Prairie on Friday for a 6:30 tipoff against the Gophers.
