4-H’ers enjoy a variety of projects and activities

Over 100 years ago, 4-H began by offering the basic projects focused on hogs, corn and cooking. Carroll County 4-H now offers a variety for everyone with over 70 projects to choose from.

Some of the more popular projects are: Animal Posters, Arts & Crafts, Cake Decorating, Electric, Foods, Food Preservation, Photography, Shooting Sports, Tractor Driving, Various Animals Projects and Woodworking.

New projects for 2019 are: Foods – Favorite Family Recipe, Mini Flowers/Garden, Mini Robotics, and Mini Weather. For a complete list, visit https://extension. purdue.edu/carroll.

Through 4-H activities, 4- H’ers have fun with friends while learning. Some favorite activities in addition to club meetings are: v Performing Arts Contest (Talent Show), v Show and Tell, Demonstrations and / or Informational Presentations., v Fashion Revue - 4-H’ers in the Sewing and Consumer Clothing projects model their outfits in Fashion Revue. v Bicycle Rodeo - 4-H’ers take a written test on bicycle safety. Plus, they demonstrate their street driving skills while riding their bike through a course. v 4-H Camp Program in June - Carroll County 4-H members, grades 3 - 6, can attend 4-H Camp at Camp Tecumseh YMCA Outdoor Center near Delphi from June 5 - 7. The 4-H camp is for 4-H members from Carroll, Cass, White, Clinton, Howard, Miami, Newton, Pulaski and Tippecanoe counties. Some of the camp classes include: crafts, canoeing, archery, swimming and foods. v State Trips - 4-H’ers have the opportunity to meet 4- H’ers from across the state when they participate in workshops at Purdue and around the State. A sampling of the potential workshops include: 4-H Academy at Purdue - June 12-14 (Animal Science, Citizenship, Entrepreneurship, Food Science, Healthy Living; Natural Resources; Plant Science; STEM it UP! – Computer Science, Electric Engineering, Robotics and the Science of Flight); State 4-H Band - June 22-24; State 4-H Chorus - June 22-25; Round-Up - June 24-26; Junior Leader Conference - June 18-21.
