An incredible key!

Lessons from the Heart
By Pastor Allen Weldy

Weldy Weldy When I was hired to become a teacher at Rossville Middle School, I was immediately given keys to my classroom and to the outside entrance of the building. It was automatic. I thought, “Wow! I am official. I am a trusted employee of the Rossville Consolidated School District.”

Those keys gave me the ability to do my job. I could gain access whenever I needed to come and go, whether school was in session or not. The keys also showed that I was a member of a staff of people who had a purpose to serve the community. The keys meant I belonged to something important, something much bigger than myself.

Jesus Christ also gives Christian believers an incredibly important “key.” If you believe in Jesus and trust him for forgiveness and salvation, you have received a powerful key, the gift of the Holy Spirit. God promised it and it is automatic (Acts 2:39 and John 14:15-18). Christ sends his Spirit to all who believe. We are sealed as an official member of God’s family (Ephesians 1:13-14) and provided with power and ability to serve God and fulfill his purposes for our lives (Acts 1:8). The Holy Spirit does that!

Many Christians do not understand or appreciate the enormous resources God provides when he gives us his Spirit. Are you a Christian? Have you placed your faith in Jesus Christ? Then please remember, you are not weak or alone. You have a remarkable supply of love, companionship, ability, confidence, security, and divine truth that will provide support, encouragement and hope as you live the Christian life.

The Holy Spirit is with you and lives in you. You can count on it.

Allen Weldy is the pastor at the Rossville Church of the Brethren.
