Bill Stauffer photos The Cougars ran into a buzzsaw Friday night when the Sheridan Blackhawks visited, routing the home team and sending Cougar fans home with a bitter taste in their mouth after the 52-0 shellacking.

It was an offensive stalemate throughout the first quarter until the Blackhawks drew first blood when they drove down the field for a touchdown to end the first quarter. Carroll had Sheridan on the ropes in the second quarter on 4th and 1 but a breakaway by the Blackhawks led to a 66-yard rushing TD for the visitors’ second score of the game. Carroll allowed another score in the pouring rain to end the first half, trailing 22-0.

Two more Blackhawk scores to open the second half along with multiple 2-point conversions and the Cougars were on the opposite end of a rout, trailing 38-0. Carroll went into the final period searching for not just answers but miracles as well.

Sheridan tacked on two more scores in the fourth quarter for good measure and Carroll finished the game with a 52-0 blanking.

The Cougars were held to 57 yards passing and 57 yards rushing while allowing 416 total yards of offense by the Blackhawks.

Carroll will look to bounce back this Friday when they host Eastern for their fifth regular season game. Kickoff is scheduled for a 7p.m. start.
