School board candidate filing deadline nears

Four seats on the Delphi Community School Corporation Board of School Trustees (DCSC) and two on the Carroll Consolidated School Corporation Board of School Trustees (CCSC) will be decided in the November General Election. The deadline for candidates to submit a petition, with at least 10 names of registered voters who live in the school district for which they are running, is Aug. 24 at noon. Petitions are to be delivered to the County Clerk’s Office on the second floor of the courthouse by that deadline.

A CCSC candidate must be 21 years of age, a registered voter and must have lived in the district for at least one year immediately preceding the Election. Candidates are voted for by all CCSC voters.

A DCSC candidate must be 21 years of age and live in the district for which seat they are running. Candidates are voted for by voters in their district only.

The two seats on the CCSC Board in the General Election ballot are: • Dist. 2 - Carrollton Twp., which is the seat currently held by David Lambert; and • Dist. 5 - Washington Twp., the seat currently held by Eric Johnson.

The four seats on the DCSC Board on the General Election ballot are: • Dist. 1 - Deer Creek Twp., the seat currently held by Steve Myer; • District 2 - City of Delphi, the seat held by Gil Smith; • District 3 - Jackson Twp., the seat held by Kirk Schwarzkopf; and • District 7 - Tippecanoe Twp., the seat currently held by Kent Sales.

As of press time, only two candidates have filed the necessary paperwork to appear on the General Election Ballot in November.

Both are vying for DCSC seats. The candidates are ncumbent Kirk Schwarzkopf for the Dist. 3 seat and newcomer Michael Priest for the Dist. 7 seat.
