Betty J. Sanderson

Betty Jane Sanderson, 85, of Lebanon, formerly of Flora, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, June 6, 2018.

Betty was born to Virgil L. and Mary Lenon on Aug. 24, 1932, in Cass County. After her father’s death her mother married Thomas Henry, who was a big part of Betty’s life. She was a 1950 graduate of Young America High School. On Aug. 30, 1953, in Young America, she married Mitchell Sanderson and he passed away on Oct. 10, 2014.

Betty worked as head teller at Bright National Bank in Flora which later became First Financial Bank for 34 years. She worked until she retired at the age of 74. Prior to working in Flora she worked at Logansport National Bank. She and her husband were past co-owners of the former Wilcox Lumber Co. in Flora.

Betty was an active member of the Deer Creek Presbyterian Church, singing in the choir. She was also a member of Presbyterian Women and served as treasurer. She was also a member of the Carroll County Extension Homemakers.

For many years she and Mitch were members of a euchre club, playing with seven other couples.

Betty was a loving, caring and giving lady. She loved people, never met a stranger and would always have her door open for visitors.

Surviving are a daughter, Tami Richardson (Mark) of Lebanon; granddaughter, Lindsay Johnson (Eric) of Bluffton; grandson, Trent Mitchell Richardson of Lebanon; a great-granddaughter, Sadie Jane Johnson of Bluffton; a sister, Virginia Moore of Galveston; and a brother, Fred Henry of Young America.

She was also preceded in death by her mother and stepfather; two sisters, Sue Wertz and Jayne English; and a brother, Joe Henry.

A Celebration of Life service was held June 9 at Wheeler Family Funeral Home-Baker Chapel, Flora. Burial followed at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Flora.

Memorial donations in her name may be given to the Deer Creek Presbyterian Church.
