Tax Caps, Farm Ground Assessments…Making it all work together

Comet staff report

The Carroll County Council and the Carroll County 4- H Learning Center will host Purdue Professor Dr. Larry DeBoer on March 19 at 7 p.m. to discuss the fiscal impact tax caps and farm ground assessments will continue to have on property tax revenue in Carroll County. Dr. DeBoer will include information specific to Carroll County and has agreed to offer details and information which will provide county leaders with a unique experience.

The Carroll County Commissioners, all members of the Carroll County Council, the superintendents and school board members of Carroll Consolidated, Delphi Community, Twin Lakes and Rossville Consolidated school corporations all received invitations to the informational event. The Mayor of Delphi and the Delphi City Council are invited as are Town Councils in Camden, Flora, Burlington and Yeoman. In addition, all township officials and interested taxpayers are also invited to attend.

“Financial decision makers must learn how to deal with the situation by becoming better informed and by working together to achieve maximum results,” County Council President Ann Brown stated in the letter of invitation. “Understanding our situation and working together will be the key.”

Brown advised that Carroll County is one of only 10 counties in the State of Indiana which is, and will continue to be, negatively impacted by the new formula for farm ground assessments because Carroll County has little other industry besides farming.
