DCHS wins Bacon Bowl Battle of the Books


Friendly competitors Students from the high schools at Delphi Community and Carroll competed recently in the 14th annual Battle of the Books Bacon Bowl. Delphi edged Carroll to claim the win. Photo provided The 14th annual Battle of the Books began on Feb. 12 with local competitions at Carroll Jr.-Sr. and Delphi Community high schools. The winning teams from those battles competed in the Bacon Bowl held at Carroll on Feb. 21 with Delphi claiming the win.

Delphi defeated Carroll by a slim margin, 105-102, in a quiz bowl type event consisting of 130 questions from the ten books that all participants had read and studied. These competitions involved about 250 students at the high school level who received the books during Teen Read Week last October.

Members of Delphi’s winning team are: Joe Perry, Elijah Hudson, Rylee Houston, Jordan Ladd, Elizabeth Walker, Morgan Fritz, Addie Mann, Blaise Niles, Kaitlyn Landis, and Tyler Folmar.

Carroll’s team members are Gracie Meyer, Elani Harper, Lauren Spraker, Hannah Ortman, Samantha Silverthorn, Emily Thompson, Lauren Johnson, Grace Krom, Sophia Carson and Payton Forrest.

Sponsors for the events were the Delphi Community School Corporation Educational Foundation, Carroll Consolidated School Corporation, Delphi Public Library Friends, Psi Iota Xi Delphi Chapter, and Camden Woman’s Literary Club.

The middle school Bacon Bits competitions between the rival schools began March 5 with the local contests. The Bacon Bits Bowl will be March 13 at Delphi.
