Edward J. Stankard

Edward “Eddie” Joe Stankard, 66, of Reno, Nev., passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018.

He was born April 24, 1951, in Lafayette, Ind., to Mary F. (Gramkow) Stankard and the late William J. Stankard. He graduated from Delphi Community High School in 1969. After high school he graduated from Columbia School of Broadcasting in Milwaukee, Wisc., and attended classes at Ivy Tech in Lafayette.

Eddie was the sports director for radio stations in Monticello and Rochester, Ind. He later enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving for three years. After he completed his term of service, he worked at Alcoa in Lafayette, before moving to California, where he retired from General Chemical Corp.

Eddie was a lifelong Chicago Cubs and Purdue Boilermaker fan. His favorite sport was Major League Baseball and his favorite team was the Oakland A’s. Eddie was an avid golfer.

Eddie loved his family and is survived by his mother of Delphi; companion, Linda Buffington of Reno; daughter, Emerald Keehan (Sean) of South San Francisco, Calif.; and brother, Dan Stankard (Pat) of Delphi. He also leaves behind three special nephews, Scott Stankard (Piper), Jeff Stankard (Libby) and Eric Stankard (Erica).

The family will welcome visitors to a Celebration of Life that will be held Saturday, Jan. 13, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Delphi.
