The young Lady Oracles began their 2017-2018 season on Saturday afternoon at Lafayette Jeff. The Oracles fell behind early, allowing a sluggish offensive start to be their downfall on the way to a 0-1 start with a final score of 55-33.

The first quarter began with the Oracle offense spinning its wheels as they managed only 6 points in the first period. Jeff found its footing from the start, scoring 26 in the first half, 12 in the first quarter and 14 in the second.

Despite the Oracles’ sluggish start, they only trailed by 10 going into halftime. However, the way in which they opened the second half, 4 points in the third, put them in a hole they ultimately were unable to dig themselves out of. The Lady Bronchos scored 29 points in the second half and shot 45 percent from the three-point line in the contest, handing Delphi its first defeat.

Delphi’s only seniors, Katherine Lang and Emily Jakes, led the team in scoring with 17 and 7 points, respectively. Lang also pitched in on the boards, pulling down a team high 8 rebounds.

The Oracles will host West Central at home on Tuesday followed by a matchup at Pioneer on Saturday afternoon at 2:30.
