Optima Dairy Farm owners Koen and Els Ally have applied for a permit to operate a 2,200-head of dairy cows in Liberty Township. For the first time in Delphi Community High School history, two students were selected as top 20 finalists in Wendy’s High School Heisman program. Seniors Erika Hawn and Kyle Bender were chosen from hundreds of applicants across the state.

25 YEARS AGO

City of Delphi Mayor Sam Deiwert reports that an Indiana Department of Environmental Management fine assessed to the city because of problems incurred during construction of the city sewer plant addition, should not be over $10,000. The city was striving for a $7,000 settlement.

Two Carroll County men, Shawn Lambert of Flora and Mark Deno of Delphi, entered the world’s largest marathon course of 26 plus miles in New York City. The event attracted a million spectators and 24,488 runners participated in the 1992 marathon.

50 YEARS AGO

Miss Hilda Bowen of Delphi has returned from a two-week trip to New York City where she visited friends at the New Jersey Shore and took a Miller Theatre Tour. Bowen also met with an old friend, Leon Ames, who resided in Delphi as a boy. Ames was appearing on Broadway in the play, “Life with Father.” Ames also starred in the 1944 movie, “Meet Me in St. Louis,” with Judy Garland. He portrayed her father.

“Fifty years of Humanitarian Service” by the Carroll County Chapter of the American Red Cross was cited by Fredrick Hills when he was presented a certificate marking the golden anniversary of the chapter. The chapter was chartered on May 15, 1917, and received its baptism of fire during World War I.

75 YEARS AGO

State Selective Service headquarters announced that Indiana local boards will induct married men in order to fill their December calls. Col. Robinson Hitchcock, State Selective Service Director, said, “Substantially all local boards in this state reported that the supply of available single men was exhausted. National Headquarters had been informed to induct married men in December.”

100 YEARS AGO

Carroll County laid $410,200 on the national altar as her contribution to the second Liberty Loan Campaign. This was $39,800 short of the minimum allotment for the county. Each bank was asked to take 10 percent of the total resources and under the plan the A.T. Bowen Bank should have taken $145,000. The bank’s subscription was $30,000. The four Flora banks’ subscription was $12,800 more than asked.
