Grace M. Bell-Fry

Grace Marcella Bell-Fry, 92, formerly of Camden, passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2017, at her home in Champaign, Ill.

Grace was born on April 19, 1925, in Walton, Ind., to Emmett H. and Bertha (Stephenson) Burkett. She married Evan Dale Bell on Dec. 20, 1940, in Logansport, Ind., and he passed away July 18, 1983. On Dec.10, 1988, in Logansport, she married Harry Irvin Fry; he passed away March 27, 2009.

Grace is survived by her children, Betty Bell Gauze (James), Lawrence L. Bell (Eva), and Barbara K. “Babs” Bell Hajdusiewicz (Gerald); grandchildren, Kregg Sanders (Jenny Sears), Kelly Grace Allhands (G. Scott), James A. Gauze (Linda Garczynski), Donna Gauze, Steven B. Gauze (Deana), Tricia Lynn Fox (Jeffrey), Nicholas Ari Hajdusiewicz, and Allison E. Hajdusiewicz (Jenny Robertson); great-grandchildren Joshua Sanders, Kato Sanders, Syrus Sears, Makayla Sears, Chelsea Allhands, Evan Allhands, Ryan Gauze, Kaylee Gauze, Danika Garczynski, Adam Gauze, Cora Leigh Gauze, Garrett Gauze, Timothy Evan Fox, Darin David Fox, Madeleine Victoria Fox, Willa Hajdusiewicz, Phineas Hajdusiewicz; great-greatgrandchildren, Madison, Jackson, Braxton, and Kaynin; a sister, Pauline Baber; nieces and nephews, Mary Edith Titus, Marlene Lindach, Becky Forney, Diane Achgill, Sharon Denhardt, Norman Snyder, Shirley Griffin, Shelly Wiseley, Sheila Troutman, Marie Totten, Pamela Dove, Bobby Burkett, Kevin Burkett, Ronald Burkett, Phyllis Cooksey, Russell Baber, Carmen Baber, and Rita Hettinger; sisters-in-law, Sue Burkett and Dixie Burkett; honorary granddaughter, Kaili Yun; Living Angels, Pastor Sheryl Palmer, Evelyn Du- Priest, Wanda Haschek-Hock (Vince), Corina Mira, Terry and Nancy Dolan, Moder Attarwalla (late Zeenat), Jimmy and Shirley Howe, Sue Kumler, DeAnna Williams, and Bobby Swann; “Team Grace Caregivers” June 2017 to now and always, Georgiana Schuster, Amy Love, Karen Palmisano, Kaleigh Adams, Linda Edmunds.

Grace was also preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Darin E. Bell; siblings, Joe Burkett, Ed Burkett, Helen Cunningham, Margaret Snyder, Donald Burkett, Raymond Burkett, David Burkett, and Clifford Burkett; nieces and nephews, Jean Creviston, Carol Stacey, Linda White, Carolyn White, Mike Burkett, and Clifford Burkett; and sisters in-law, Donna Burkett, Helen Burkett, and Mary Burkett.

Grace was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and a noted cook and pie maker. She restored antique furniture for her home and others.

Grace raised chickens and produce for the family food. She created specialty handmade lampshades and designer clothing for her children. She managed a small restaurant on highway 25 in Burrows, Ind., for many years.

Grace retired from Essex Wire in Flora, Ind., after working many years in production, always exceeding her quota.

A celebration of Grace’s life was held Aug. 2 at Faith United Methodist Church, Champaign, Ill. The Reverend Dr. Sheryl Palmer officiated.

An additional memorial service was held Aug. 7 at Burrows, Ind., Presbyterian Church with family greeting and welcoming the community that raised the Bell children. Graveside committal followed at Woodville Cemetery, a city block south of Grace’s lifetime residence in Carroll County, Ind.

Memorial gifts may be made in Grace’s name to Carle Hospice; Burrows, Ind., Presbyterian Church; Faith United Methodist Church, Crisis Nursery; or the American Cancer Association.
