With God all things are possible

Lessons from the Heart

Ramey Ramey “But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, with men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26.

Stuart Hamblin was a popular D.J., song writer and actor in the 1940’s. Being unable to cope with the pressures of success, he became an alcoholic and a gambler. This severely affected his life and career.

In 1949, he attended a crusade of a young evangelist by the name of Billy Graham. That night he gave his heart over to the Lord and was saved. This new life in Christ came with problems in his career. Refusing to do alcohol commercials, he was fired as a D.J. and began to lose favor in Hollywood.

A personal friend, John Wayne, took him aside and said “All your troubles came when you got religion. Is it worth it?” Hamblin replied, “Yes.” Wayne said, “But you used to love to drink and gamble. Don’t you miss it?” His reply was “NO!” Wayne said, “I don’t see how a man can give it up so quickly.” Hamblin’s response was this, “It is no big secret what God can do.” Wayne responded, “That sounds catchy, you ought to write a song about that.” Hamblin returned home and penned the words to the song.

“It is no secret what God can do, what he’s done for others, He will do for you. With arms wide open, he’ll pardon you. It is no secret what God can do.”

It does not matter where you have been or what you have done, or even what you’re facing. It is no secret what God can do. For with God, all things are possible.

Mark Ramey is the pastor at Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
