Railcars attract interest in Flora

The Ohio Valley Chapter of the North American Rail Car Owners Association (NARCOA) hosted a ride on 133 miles of U.S. Rail Kokomo Division May 12-14. Sunday the group traveled the U.S. Rail Line, just south of Bringhurst, north to Logansport and back. On the return trip Flora Main Street provided lunch for the group at the Flora-Monroe Public Library. NARCOA began in 1980 as a not-for-profit group dedicated to the preservation and the safe legal operation of railroad equipment. The railroad motorcars or “speedsters” were once used to inspect track for defects and to handle track maintenance. Now many of the railcars are privately owned and operated on railroads throughout the United States and Canada. The luncheon served by Flora Main Street served as a mini fundraiser for that organization’s Depot Restoration Project. Comet photo
