Delphi Trails group organizes to study safety
A special task force has been organized to study how to make Delphi’s trails safer in the aftermath of a doublehomicide near the High Bridge. Two Delphi Community Middle School students and best friends, Libby German and Abby Williams, were slain when they visited the High Bridge and the trails Feb. 13.
The initial meeting of the group, which has been named the “Trails Safety Task Force,” was held March 13 at the Wabash & Erie Canal Center. Although it was first announced as a closed-door meeting, community members and media outside of Carroll County were allowed to attend the meeting.
Audience members volunteered suggestions about how to improve trail safety conditions and also ways in which hikers could more adequately identify where on a trail they are located if they become incapacitated.
The next meeting will be March 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the Canal Center. It is open to the public, according to a press release received Tuesday afternoon. Organizers request participants write suggestions about trail camera usage to submit at the meeting. A general cost analysis will be applied to the deployment of cameras for the most effective use of time and money.
