Burlington resident to celebrate 100th birthday

Bell Bell Tomorrow, March 16, Rosella Shankland Bell will turn 100 years old. She said she has witnessed many changes during those years and loves to reminisce about them all.

Born to Ross and Susie E. (Flora) Shankland, she is a lifelong resident of Carroll County. Graduating from Carrollton High School in 1935, she still recalls the names of her nine classmates and how they all remained close through the years.

Rosella has three brothers, George Fredrich, Russell Dean and Don Robert, all deceased. Being raised on a farm, hard work was no stranger to her. Rosella enjoyed working outdoors and helping her mother for years with a large garden, even after starting to work at Essex Wire in Logansport. After 35 years at Essex, she retired.

Until recent years, Rosella was an active member of the Sharon Baptist Church. She worked in many areas, especially missions, and played both the piano and organ.

Rosella now resides in Burlington with her daughter, Sandra Miller. She is an avid Pacers fan and loves to spend time with her grandsons, David, Dean, Doug and Darrell Miller; her five great-grandchildren and her six great-great-grandchildren.

Anyone wanting to acknowledge this special time may do so with a birthday card shower. Her address is: Rosella Bell, P.O. Box 404, Burlington, IN 46915.
