Public input sought for updated zoning ordinance

The Carroll County Area Plan Commission (APC) plans to adopt an updated version of the current county zoning ordinance at its Feb. 28 meeting. The public is invited to comment on the revision Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. in the commissioners’ meeting room on the second floor of the courthouse. According to a press release from county Zoning Administrator Doug Wagner, the meeting is for the public to provide input on the newly created Unified Development Ordinance for the county.

Wagner said the new document is a combination of the current zoning ordinance, the subdivision control ordinance and other “stand alone” county ordinances. He said there have been no language changes to the current zoning ordinance other than what is required by state statute.

The APC embarked on a two-phase plan to ultimately revise or replace the current zoning ordinance late last year. Wagoner said the intent is to move into a major amendment phase to provide additional uses, regulations and definitions to the county’s current ordinance once the current revisions are adopted by both the APC and the County Commissioners.

The zoning ordinance with revisions can be found on the Area Plan page on the county’s official website, at www.carrollcountygovernment. org.

Wagner said those who plan to attend the public input session on Feb. 23 are asked to contact his office by telephone at (765) 564-4468 or by email at areaplan@carrollcountyin. gov.
