10 YEARS AGO

Burlington Town Council discussed annexing 140 acres in the town limits at a special meeting held in the town hall. Comprised in the acreage are nine properties, including the community park. Currently, there are at least two deeds that show the town and the township as tenants in common concerning the park property.

Justin Scaggs earned his Eagle Scout designation after 92 and a half hours of work of building a stonework fence in Canal Park in Delphi. Scaggs and 16 volunteers constructed the stonework with split rail fences on top. He was awarded a medal and received letters of congratulations from many U.S. past presidents.

Pastor Ryan Spence of Living Faith Church of the Brethren challenged himself to complete an Iron Man event. He swam 2.4 miles, biked 112 miles and ran 26.2 miles through the Carroll County countryside. He completed the challenge in 14 hours, 20 minutes and 19 seconds.

25 YEARS AGO

A public meeting concerning annexation of certain property to the City of Delphi has been set for July 24. To be considered is the Whiteman Addition and certain properties on the east side of US421S.

The Flora Town Board will be known as the Town Council effective July 1. The council members are to be known as the Fiscal Body to avoid confusing them with township trustees.

50 YEARS AGO

James R. Sullivan, 26, life long resident of Camden, has purchased the Gentry Funeral Home in Camden. Sullivan is now serving in the U.S. Coast Guard and transfer of ownership will occur later in the year when he is released from service.

Indiana Selective Service Local Boards will begin in July to order 18-year-old registrants for complete examination by the Armed Forces. State Director of Selective Services Colonel Robert K. Custer emphasized the examination does not mean that they face induction in the immediate future.

75 YEARS AGO

The Delphi Chamber of Commerce has purchased the site where the old paper mill formerly stood on the east edge of Delphi. The purchase was made from Paul Ruddy of St. Louis, Mo., who owned the site. It is being held for some industry which might desire this location.

Carl and Marvin Wise have been granted a permit by the public service commission to open stock yards in Delphi. The yards will be located near the old paper mill in the east part of Delphi.

100 YEARS AGO

M.E. Gray and family of Rossville left for Bemidji, Minn., traveling by automobile, made a record breaking run to the Minnesota town in less than six days. Gray averaged 19 miles per gallon, bought 50 gallons of gasoline and used one and half cans of lubricating oil. In Indiana, gas retailed for 15 cents a gallon and in Bemidji, 20 cents a gallon.
