Boys State

Comet staff report

Delphi Community High School students from Delphi and Camden have been chosen to attend the Indiana American Legion Hoosier Boys and Girls State at Trine University in Angola. The local students will be among roughly 600 delegates who will have the opportunity to learn how politics impact their daily lives.

Delegates will experience how Indiana’s government process works by actively participating in a simulated government with two parties, the Nationalists and the Federalists. The students are expected to know more about State government than 90 percent of most Hoosiers.

Participating students will run for local to state offices and will interact with the other participants to earn their votes. They will be expected to compromise and negotiate to get their bills passed.

Hoosier Boys State runs the week of June 15-21 while Hoosier Girls State runs June 22-28.
