County farm receives Hoosier Homestead Award

Indiana Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman and Agriculture Director Joe Kelsay honored the Samuel and Malinda Smith Stephen Farm Aug. 8 at the Hoosier Homestead Award Ceremony at the Indiana State Fair.

The Hoosier Homestead Award Program recognizes families with farms that have been owned by the same family for 100 years or more. There were 46 Centennial awards given for 100 years of ownership and 29 Sesquicentennial awards recognized 150 years.

The Samuel and Malinda Smith Stephen Farm, located in rural Logansport, Carroll County, began in 1844. They received the sesquicentennial award for 150 years of ownership.
