Betty M. Viney

Betty M. Viney, 81, of rural Camden, died at 8:45 a.m. Sunday, March 11, 2012, at Clarion Arnett Hospital, Lafayette. Born March 18, 1928, in Logansport, she was the daughter of W. Ralph and Thelma A. Brant Grable. She married Gilbert L. “Sam” Viney on Jan. 24, 1953, in Rockfield, and he preceded her in death April 27, 2005.

Betty was the former assistant manager at Montgomery Ward.

She was a member of the V.F.W. Post #3790 Auxiliary, American Legion Post #60 Auxiliary, Eagles Lodge #323 Auxiliary, La Societe de Femme (40 & 8) Auxiliary, Logansport Women’s Bowling Association, Hoosier Women Bowling Riders, National Women Bowling Riders, and the Bowlers Hall of Fame Museum.

Surviving are three sons, John Viney (wife: Jean) of Logansport, Barry L. Roland (wife: Marlyn) of Texas, and Garry C. Webb of Indianapolis; two daughters, Lindy Reid (husband: Fred) of Camden and Janet G. Wilburn of Indianapolis; a halfbrother, David R. Smith (wife: Janie) of Delphi; a half-sister, Barbara Erickson (husband: Chuck) of Logansport; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a stepbrother, Charles E. Smith; her stepfather, Charles E. Smith Sr.; and a son-in-law, Bill Wilburn.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Gundrum Funeral Home, Logansport. Pastor W. Frank Hibbard will officiate. Burial will follow at Ever-Rest Memorial Park Cemetery, Logansport. Visitation will be at the funeral home today, Wednesday, March 14, from 4 to 8 p.m.
