Dorothy M. Burns

Dorothy M. Burns, 88, of Kokomo, died at 1:20 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, in the emergency room at St. Joseph Hospital, Kokomo.

Born June 2, 1923, in Frankfort, she was the daughter of Alvin Floyd and Leora (Weaver) Applegate. She attended Frankfort High School. On May 26, 1946, she married Paul Eugene Burns, who preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 2005.

Dorothy worked at SAYCO in Flora for 17 years.

She enjoyed crocheting and playing bingo.

Surviving are a son, Dennis P. Burns of Kokomo; a daughter, Judith A. Burns of Kokomo; two granddaughters, Andrea Shorter (husband: Bret) of Morton, Ill., and Summer Collins (husband: Mike) of Pekin, Ill.; three great-granddaughters, Madison Shorter, Allison Shorter, and Olivia Collins; and three sisters-in-law, Betty Miller and Della Smith, both of Burlington, and Mary Horn of Arizona.

Her parents and two sisters also preceded her in death.

Friends may call today, Wednesday, at Stout and Son Funeral Home, Neptune Chapel, Burlington, from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m. Pastor Nettie Evans will officiate. Burial will follow at Beech Grove Cemetery, Sharon.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
