Delphi Community High School teacher Norm Miller has a tradition of letting his senior government students sign his podium on the last day of class. Over 1,000 students have signed, and Miller is on his third podium. The last two were built by students John Sterrett and Doug Mears in 1986 when they were sophomores, and Jason Grant and his family about five years ago.

Delphi’s wrestling team came away from the Regional with three weight class champions.

Kevin Milakovic won the 119- lb. class, Jason Johnson won the 130-lb. class, and Mike Dubes won the 135-lb. class.

Chaos and controversy continued Feb. 6, as furnishings and fixtures of the former Brethren Healthcare Center were auctioned to the highest bidder, and the facility’s owner was escorted to jail. 25 YEARS AGO

Twelve-year-old Dawn Perkins of Rt. 1, Cutler, placed fifth in the state on the uneven parallel bars at the United States Gymnastics Federation state met held Sunday at Central High School in Muncie.

Sean B. Spence of Carroll High School and Sven Eric Rose of Delphi Community High School have been named finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program. The finalists represent fewer than half of one percent of American high school seniors.

“White Oaks on the Lake,” a country club on Lake Freeman, is expected to become a reality following approval by Carroll County Zoning Administrator, Delmar Bailey, and unanimous approval by the zoning board. 50 YEARS AGO

Charles Hinkle of Flora purchased the 3 one-third acres of land and the Deer Creek school building in Deer Creek with his bid of $1,675 when the property was sold Fri. at the superintendent’s office. The Cutler school building did not sell.

A bill has already passed the House and is expected to pass the Senate to increase the postage for mailing a letter 25%, from 4 cents to 5 cents.

Several families in Pittsburg have been quarantined for scarlet fever. 75 YEARS AGO

Camden defeated Cutler with a score of 177-22 Friday night. They were defeated by Culver Military Academy with a score of 28-48. The basketball boys motored to Culver Saturday night to lose the ball game, but enjoyed the trip very much.

Following several weeks of controversy in regard to the PWA and other unskilled laborers working on the Delphi school building becoming affiliated with the union, an agreement was reached and on Tuesday all workers on the building became union members. 100 YEARS AGO

Bringhurst will have a commissioned high school.

Total receipts from the Woodman Indoor Carnival, after four days successful run, surpassed the $500 mark. The affair was a glorious success, not only in point of receipts, but also in the matter of handing our real enjoyment to the large crowds.
