Melvin A. Brown

Melvin A. Brown, 77, of Delphi, passed away at 10:58 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at his home. Born Sept. 27, 1934, in rural Delphi, he was the son of William Orville and Malinda Pearl (Blocher) Brown. He graduated from Delphi High School in 1952. On June 27, 1953, at the Camden Baptist Church, he married Donnabelle Brown, who survives. Pastor Myron Hinton officiated.

Melvin was a self-employed milk transporter. He retired as field manager for the Association of Milk Producers Inc. on June 1, 1996, after 18 years of employment.

A U.S. Army veteran, he served during the Vietnam era.

He was a member of the Delphi Christian Church and served on the Adams Township Advisory Board.

Melvin enjoyed playing the guitar for a country music band, Little David & the Music Makers.

Surviving with his wife are three nieces, who were raised in their home, Debbie Warner (husband: Jum) and Diane Miller (husband: Lee), both of Monticello, and Drindy Brown of Westfield; two sisters, Donna Bieghler (husband: Howard) of Flora and Linda Red Elk of Camden; two brothers, Ralph Brown (wife: Pam) of Deedsville and Richard Brown (wife: Kay) of Buffalo; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Orville; a sister-in-law, Betty; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Red Elk; an infant sister, Freda; and a great-grandson, Parker Miller.

Services were held Saturday morning at Davidson Funeral Home, Delphi, with Pastor Bob Duke officiating. Burial was at Morning Heights Cemetery, Delphi, with military graveside rites by the Delphi American Legion, Delphi VFW, and Camden American Legion.
