Maxine Stephens

Maxine Stephens, 82, of Bringhurst, beloved mother, grandmother and aunt, passed away at 6:40 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center in Delphi.

Born March 17, 1929, in Barren County, Ky., she was the daughter of William “Asa” and Lucy Mae Thomas Wood. She attended Mt. Herman, Ky., schools. On Nov. 15, 1947, in Glasgow, Ky., she married Paul Stephens, who preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 2010.

Mrs. Stephens was a homemaker and had been employed at SAYCO and Essex, both in Flora.

She was a member of the Valley View Baptist Church in Flora.

She enjoyed photography and gardening.

Surviving are two sons, Wayne Stephens (wife: Kathleen) of Delphi and Roger Dale Stephens (wife: Wilma) of Paxton, Ill.; two sisters, Pearline Norris (husband: Donald) of Flora and Marie Sherfey of Glasgow, Ky.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers, and a grandson, Nicholas Stephens.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Valley View Baptist Church, Flora. Pastor Bill Godbey will officiate. Burial will follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Flora. Visitation will be Thursday at the church from 12 to 2 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Valley View Baptist Church, Flora.
