Anna Louise Huffer

Anna Louise Whiteman Huffer, 96, formerly of rural Burlington, died at 12:10 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, at Milner Community Health Care Center, Rossville. She had been a resident there since May 2002, and in failing health.

Born Oct 7, 1915, in Frankfort, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Edith Cohee Whiteman. Her marriage was to Raymond E. Huffer in Burlington on Feb. 22, 1941, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 29, 1985.

Louise was a 1933 graduate of Burlington High School, and received her teaching degree from Marion College, Indianapolis. She taught elementary school for 34 years at Burlington, Galveston, and Indian Heights, Kokomo.

She was a member of the Burlington United Methodist Church; the Indiana Retired Teachers Association; and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was involved with an area Extension Homemakers Club, enjoyed sewing, was an avid reader, and loved to play board games with her grandchildren.

She dearly loved her family, and enjoyed the many family gatherings and her grandchildren’s activities.

Surviving are a son, Marion Huffer (wife: Denise) of Cutler; two sisters, Marjorie Rude of Rossville and Francis Towe of Converse; seven grandchildren, Andrew Huffer (wife: Amanda), Dr. Christopher Huffer (wife: Dr. Sara Huffer), Abigail Diener (husband: Benjamin), Charles Huffer (fiancé: Chelsy Blackburn), Sally Hernandez, Betsy Carman (husband: Casey), and Jessica Huffer; and 11 greatgrandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a son James R. Huffer, two sisters, and a brother.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. Thursday until her funeral at 12 p.m. at Baker-Abbott Funeral Home, Flora. Pastor Dan Butcher will officiate. Burial will follow at Ball Hill Cemetery, Cutler.
