Only a handful of candidates have filed to run for county office since Jan. 11, the first day of filing. Only 10 days remain for residents who desire to run for a public office to declare their candidacy.

Positions to be decided in 2012 include commissioner (districts 2 and 3 currently held by Bill Brown and Pat Clawson), council (at-large seats currently held by Jim Hancock, Scott Ayres and Marion Huffer), clerk, recorder, surveyor, coroner and circuit court judge as well as state delegates and precinct committee persons.

New filings this week include Republican Gene Humbarger for both state delegate at-large and for the precinct committee. Republican Judy Humbarger filed to run for state delegate atlarge.

Democrat Marion Huffer filed to run for county council.

Anyone interested in participating as a candidate in the May Primary has until Feb. 10 at 12 noon to file their intentions in the county clerk’s office on the second floor of the courthouse in Delphi. Call (765) 564-4485 for details.
