Carroll County Clerk and Election Board member Andrea Miller has announced the last day to file a declaration of candidacy in the Primary Election is Tuesday, Feb. 10, at noon. Candidates have until Monday, Feb. 13, at noon to withdraw from the Primary Election.

“It is very important for all county residents who are considering a run for local office to remember when the last day to file is,” Miller said Tuesday. “At this point, not many candidates have filed and we have several offices that will be on the ballot this year. Feb. 10 will be here before we know it.”

Offices which will be decided in 2012 include: • Judge of the Circuit Court • Clerk of the Circuit Court • Recorder • Coroner • Surveyor • Commissioner Dist. #2 • Commissioner Dist. #3 • County Council At Large (Elect 3) • Republican Precinct Committeemen • State Delegates At Large: 7 Republican and 6 Democrat

Currently, Carroll Circuit Court Judge Donald Currie has filed to run for another term on the bench. Republican Miller filed to run as clerk, Republican Bill Brown filed to run for another term as commissioner and council member Republican Jim Hancock filed to run for one of the three at-large county council seats.

Current county surveyor Wayne Chapman filed to run for another term, however decided to withdraw from the race. Republicans Jamie Rough, who currently serves on the county council, and Don Shockley will vie in the Primary Election to be placed on the November ballot for the office.

Current county coroner Republican Jay Dee Cree filed to run for the same office and Republican Donna Romein has filed to run to serve on a precinct committee.

“It is important to the democratic process for county residents to run for offices,” Miller said. “Having choices about who to vote for is good.”

“I encourage anyone who thinks they might want to serve the county to visit my office and file before Feb. 10 at noon,” she concluded.
