Delphi and Flora Psi Otes are ‘painting the town pink’
During the month of October, both chapters will be “painting the town pink” with ribbons and banners in the City of Delphi and Town of Flora.
“We are excited by this opportunity to work together on a larger-scale project,” said Delphi chapter president Denise Strasser. “We would like to make this an annual event, and eventually extend the activities to include all of Carroll County.”
“The Delphi and Flora chapters see each other’s activities in the community, and compare notes at our National Convention, but this is the first time we have worked together on a larger project for the benefit of our county,” said Flora chapter president Sandy Bushman.
The Delphi chapter will be putting pink ribbons all over Delphi, and will raffle a Pink basket with the proceeds to go toward the cost of a woman’s physical at the Family Health Clinic. The Delphi chapter will be in different locations in the city throughout the month, passing out breast cancer awareness information.
The Flora chapter will also put pink ribbons all over Flora. The Flora ladies kicked off the Awareness Event with a Silent Auction at Flora’s Moonlight Madness on Oct. 1. A special “Think Pink” gift basket was a featured auction item. The Psi Ote ladies have a Breast Cancer Awareness banner that is stretched across South Center Street in the center of Flora.
In 1897, Psi Iota Xi was founded by the joining together of women to make a difference in the lives of individuals one community at a time. The original intent was to bring more diverse cultural experiences to their communities. Music and art were introduced to these towns with the funds that the women raised. As the organization grew, literature and literacy became an added focus. Now the sphere of interest has grown to include helping those with speech and hearing difficulties.
Psi Iota Xi is a network of friends dedicated to helping others with time, money and love and meeting needs whether cultural, educational, social, or financial. Every chapter is different since every community’s needs are different. Psi Iota Xi endeavors to create a circle of influence and dedication so that it might meet the diverse needs of individuals, families, communities, and in expanding areas of our states and nation.
Carroll County is home to two chapters - Beta Psi in Delphi and Beta Alpha in Flora. The ladies of both chapters work hard to raise money for service projects in the community, including selling cheese balls and geraniums (both chapters) and Psi Ote cookies (Flora chapter). More information about Psi Otes can be found on their website, psiiotaxi.org.
