Commissioners adopt 2012 holiday schedule
Carroll County Commissioners adopted the 2012 holiday schedule for employees in a 2-1 vote at their Sept. 6 business meeting.
Commissioner Ron Slavens suggested the county leaders set the standard for county employees to celebrate the birthday of a president on his actual date of birth, rather than make the holiday a convenient way for county employees and elected officials to have an extra day of time off from work added to their holiday.
Pat Clawson and Bill Brown agreed that the county should adhere to the State holiday schedule for using the days set aside to honor Presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln as well as civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Slavens argued that the county government should become the leaders in the community to honor those individuals on the days they were born, if they are to be honored.
The 2012 holiday schedule is: • Jan 2 - New Year’s • Jan. 16 - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. • April 6 - Good Friday • May 8 - Primary Election • May 28 - Memorial Day • July 4 - Independence Day • Sept. 3 - Labor Day • Oct. 8 - Columbus Day • Nov. 6 - Election Day • Nov. 12 - Veteran’s Day • Nov. 22 - Thanksgiving • Nov. 23 - Lincoln’s Birthday • Dec. 24 - Washington’s Birthday • Dec. 25 - Christmas
