Carroll County voters will be going to the polls on Nov. 2 to decide several contested races in county, state and national government races. There are deadlines that must be met by voters and county leaders prior to that date.

The Comet will run a special series, “Countdown to

the Election,” in the weeks to come to help voters understand deadlines, issues and candidates. The first of the new series begins this week.

Sept. 18 is the deadline for the county election board to mail general election absentee ballots to voters who have already filed an application with the county election board.

Oct. 4 is the first day that a voter may vote an absentee general election ballot before an absentee voter board in the office of the county clerk.

According to information from the Carroll County Clerk’s Office, there will be five contested local races in the upcoming mid-term election in Carroll County, which include the contest for county Prosecutor, County Council District 2, and the Burlington, Deer Creek and Jefferson township advisory board races.

In addition, there will be six contested races in the national and state elections including those for U.S. Senator and District 2 Representative, Secretary of State, State Auditor, Treasurer and State Representative for District 24.
