Cougar Soccer improves to 3-1

The Carroll Cougar Varsity Soccer team improved to 3-1 with a win at Tri-Central last Thursday in a Hoosier Heartland Conference match-up.

Senior Jarvis Simmons started the scoring for the Cougars with a goal seven minutes into the game off of an assist from freshman Elliot Packard. Junior Tim Ruby put the Cougars up 2-0 on a direct kick from about 20 yards out with 21 minutes remaining in the first half.

The Cougar defense held Tri-Central to no shots on goal in the first half. The Cougars led 2-0 at the half.

Carroll came out quick in the second half with Simmons netting his second goal of the game, this time with a pass from Ruby. Ruby got his second goal of the game with 14 minutes to go in the game off of an assist from fellow junior Stephen Murphy. Junior Kate Hickner got her first goal of the season, finishing off another assist from Ruby with 8 minutes to go.

Tri-Central converted a penalty kick with less than 2 minutes to break up the shutout for the Cougars.

Junior Jeremy Hayes ended the game with 2 saves in goal and helped the Cougars come out on top 5-1. The Cougars are 3-1 on the year and 1-0 in the HHC. Carroll was host to Rossville (Tuesday) and will play at Central Catholic tomorrow (Thursday).
