Just as the sun is setting on the career of a long-time courthouse elected official, recognition has come in the form of a peer-based award.
Carroll County Assessor Doris McLeland was recently named “Assessor of the Year” by the Northwest District of the Indiana Association of Assessors. McLeland has worked in the assessor’s office for 23 years and has been the elected official since 1998. She also has served as the secretary and treasurer of the 16-county district since 2000.
McLeland, who is married to Richard McLeland, has been a Carroll County resident for 50 years.
She told the Comet that the award was a great acknowledgment of her service.
“I was very excited when I heard I had received the award,” McLeland said. “They kept it a secret from me to the very last moment!”
“There are many tasks as county assessor, but I have enjoyed them all,” she added.
