The Carroll County on the Same Page book selection, “The Help,” by Kathryn Stockett remains popular. The author has written a novel depicting her characters in work, play and love during a time when possibilities for women were few, but they could dream, have humor and hope. Copies are available at the Camden, Flora and Delphi public libraries.

An upcoming event to coincide with the all-county read is an event called “Household Organization 101: How to Clean and Declutter.” It will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Flora- Monroe Public Library. Lori Watson, a professional home organizer, will share tips on how to gain control of the clutter in your home. Everyone is invited.

The next “Reminisce meeting at the Camden library will be Sept. 15 at 9 a.m.

Delphi Public

The library will be closed

Sept. 6 in observance of Labor Day reopening Sept. 7 with fall business hours of 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Family Story Time will begin Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. Story time for preschoolers with a train theme will begin Sept. 9: from 9:30 to 10 a.m. for three month old infants to two year olds; toddlers (ages 2-4) from 10 to 11 a.m.; and preschool children (ages 4-6) from 11:30 to 12:15. All children should be accompanied by a caregiver.

Tuesday Afternoon Art Classes will resume Sept. 7 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. for eight weeks. Participants need to provide a sketch pad, drawing pencils and a few tools to develop drawing and painting skills using a variety of mediums. Limited space is available. Call to reserve a spot.

T-shirt Refashion Workshop will be Sept. 18 from 1 to 3 p.m. Participants will learn how to add fashionable embellishments to simple Tshirts. The class, open to those 14 and older, is free but register is required to receive information and supplies about the class

Computer literacy is a must in the workforce and the library would like to help make that possible. One-on-one computer tutorials can be scheduled by calling and arranging a date and time. Classes are available in several computer programs as well as Internet and email.

Flora-Monroe Twp.

The library will be closed Saturday, Sept. 4, and Monday, Sept. 6, in observance of the Labor Day holiday. Normal operating hours will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 7. Hours of operation are Monday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Wednesday, closed.

The September selection for the library’s book discussion group is Sarah Dunant’s “The Birth of Venus.” The discussion will be Sept. 15 at 10 a.m. in the Flora Senior Center.

The next Carroll County on the Same Page event is hosted by the Flora Library. “Household Organization 101: How to Clean and De-clutter” is Thursday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m. in the library’s program room. Lori Watson of Anyone and Everything Organized will show you tricks and tips to help control the clutter. This free program is sponsored by the Camden, Delphi, and Flora public libraries.

Celebrate Grandparents Day at the next storytime. Bring your favorite grandparents (or special someone) to storytime to share stories and fun! Storytime is Tuesday morning at 10 a.m.

National Grandparents Day originated with Marian Mc- Quade, a housewife in Fayette County, W. Va. Her primary motivation was to champion the cause of lonely elderly in nursing homes. She also hoped to persuade grandchildren to gain wisdom and heritage form their grandparents’ lives.

In 1978, President Jimmy Carter proclaimed that National Grandparents Day would be celebrated every year on the first Sunday after Labor Day.
