Carroll County Election Board met July 19 to develop the 2011 spending plan for submission to the county council. It was determined that there will not be enough money in the current budget to support the 2010 November general election and training will be necessary to help defray the deficit. County Clerk Nancy Mattox said she was going to request an additional $7,275 from the county council.

The election board approved a $30,885 2011 budget compared to a $15,750 2010 budget.

Mattox reported that there is virtually no money left in the 2010 budget to pay Election Software and Services (ES&S) to provide election support in November. She recommended that the county purchase 10 days of training, or support, from ES&S for $14,500. She was directed to find out how much it would cost for her and one other person to be trained for two days so that the two could manage the election without the professional support.

Mattox said there may be another vendor which is licensed for the software used in the county voting machines. She said the vendor could support the voting machines next year to save the county from the necessity of purchasing new ones. Mattox had few details to share with the other members of the election board.

The next meeting will be Aug. 16 at 4 p.m.
