Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School seventh graders KARLEE KITCHEL and MADISON RINEH A R T recently served as Indiana House Pages during the 2010 session of the Indiana General Assembly for Representative Rich McClain (RL ogans- port). As a page, students 13 years and older spend the day gaining a greater understanding of state government and how laws are made. They are given a backstage tour of the Statehouse and work alongside legislative assistants and interns.

State Sen. Brandt Hershman (R-Lafayette) recently welcomed the following area students as legislative pages:

D AV I D H A L E Y, VALERIE H A L E Y, and VIV IAN H A L E Y, children of Eric and Margie Haley. All attend Burrows Christian Home School.

During the legislative session, student pages spend one day at the Statehouse working with their Senator and Senate staff. They start the day in orientation before touring the hist oric Statehouse. Throughout the day, they spend time in the Senate Chamber observing the introduction of bills, listening to debates, and delivering important messages among Senators and staff.

Kitchel Kitchel Students in grades six through 12 are eligible to serve as pages. Anyone interested in information for the 2011 session can call 1-800-382-9467.

Hershman represents Senate District 7, which covers six counties, including Carroll.
