Master Trooper Bill Brooks, assigned to the Lafayette State Police Post, recently was presented a 1,000,000-mile safe driving award. Brooks has been assigned as a road trooper at the district since 2004.
He started his career as an Indiana State Police Motor Carrier Officer in 1979 and became a State Trooper in 1980. He was assigned to the Lowell Post until 1985, and then was transferred to headq uarters, where he worked in the aviation section. He flew fixed wing aircraft and helicopters.
In 2003, he was re-assigned to the Indiana State Police Gaming Commission, working on the Horseshoe Casino Boat. After working there for a year, Brooks returned to his home district and works White and Carroll counties. He lives in Wolcott and also helps run the family farms in White and Jasper counties.
“A million miles is a long time sitting in a car but it has been fun working for the people of Indiana,” Brooks said. “Not many jobs give you the opportunity to help people when they are in need and to meet the great people that I have met over the years.”
