Ruth R. Knannlein
Ruth R. Johnson Knannlein 102, of Indianapolis, passed away March 5, 2010.
She was born April 27, 1907, in Carroll County to Jesse and Bessie Johnson. Her marriage was to William J. Knannlein, who preceded her in death.
She was a music educator and taught 35 years in Indiana schools, including two in Indianapolis.
Mrs. Knannlein graduated from DePauw University School of Music in 1931. She also had graduate training from Arthur Jordan School of Music, Johns Hopkins School of Education and Columbia University.
She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where for many years she directed the youth choirs.
She was a charter member of the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir as well as a member of Mu Phi Epsilon music sorority.
She was devoted to her family and church and will be deeply missed.
Survivors include a sister, Alice Hess of Palm Desert, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Betty Johnson of Bringhurst, and four nieces and nephews, Lowell Johnson (wife: Janice) of Flora, Kim Forgey (husband: Gary) of Camden, Gentry Johnson (wife: Donna) of Marietta, Ga., and Janine McGill of Spring Arbor, Mich.
