Clyde P. Perkins

Clyde Phillip Perkins, 98, of Lebanon, died at 7 a.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at his home.

Born March 19, 1911, in Lebanon, Boone County, he was the son of the late Clint and Orie Shepherd Perkins. His first marriage was on Sept. 10, 1931, in Boone County, to Dorothy May Finch, who preceded him in death March 16, 1992. His second marriage was in Lebanon to Rosella F. Busenburg Doran Perkins, who preceded him in death Nov. 21, 1994. His third marriage was to Leah Avery Perkins, who survives.

Mr. Perkins was a life resident of Boone County with the exception of spending a few years in Flora.

He was a graduate of Lebanon High School.

Mr. Perkins was the owner of the Lebanon Electric Hatchery, Perkins Mobile Feed Service and Perkins Poultry Farm until he retired.

He was a faithful member of the Brown Wonder United Church of Christ and was active in various official capacities including serving as a Deacon as long as the church was open. More recently, he attended the Centenary United Methodist Church.

Mr. Perkins was a former member of the American Poultry and Hatchery Federation. He was an active member of the Lebanon Lions Club for several years. He was active in civic affairs and had served two terms on the Lebanon School Board.

He had many and varied interests. As a sportsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and sports in general. He was an avid basketball fan, having followed the Lebanon High School team and attended the games as long as he was able. He continued to follow sports watching them at home on television.

Mr. Perkins was interested in construction and built several homes. He was also an avid gardener who raised sweet corn, tomatoes, pumpkins and roses.

He and his wife, Dorothy, had celebrated sixty years of marriage and spent many vacations traveling in their motor home. They wintered in Florida and Texas for a number of years.

Mr. Perkins was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed his family and their activities.

Also surviving are a son, William C. “Bill” Perkins (wife: Phyllis) of Bloomington; a daughter, Susan L. Whittemore (husband: Charles) of Lafayette; five grandchildren, Bonnie M. Perkins Schmitt (husband: Kyle) of Tempe, Ariz., Betsy A. Hawkins (husband: Mike) of Fishers, Jeff Perkins (wife: Amanda) of Avon, Nick Whittemore of Lafayette and Kate Whittemore of Bloomington; and four greatgrandchildren, Zach Hawkins, Jessica Hawkins, both of Fishers, Sam Perkins and Lexie Perkins, both of Avon.

Preceding him in death was a daughter, Ruth Ann Perkins and four brothers, Ray Wendell, Paul, Emil and Robert Perkins.

Services were held Saturday at Myers Chapel of Memories in Lebanon. The Rev. Marcy Patrick officiated. Burial followed at Browns Wonder Cemetery east of Lebanon.
