Abbott Abbott Carroll County Council President Ann Brown announced the resignation of Carl Abbott from the council at a Tuesday morning council finance committee meeting.

“It is with a great sense of sadness and disappointment that I share with you a phone call I received from Carl Abbott yesterday,” said Brown. “Carl has submitted his resignation from the Council to Penny Titus, county Republican Party chair. He wanted us to know his intentions and I wanted all of you to know before the information is released to the public. Carl said that he will be sending all of us an official e-mail.

“Over the years that Carl served the Council, he always did his very best to do what was the right thing for the good of the citizens of the county. Carl truly loved to serve and exhibited great enthusiasm for his position. Carl is most definitely an advocate for ‘fiscal responsibility.’

“We, the remaining council members, will miss having Carl share in our decisions. We do thank Carl for his service and can appreciate that he is putting family matters ahead of work.”

Abbott was first elected to the council in 2000 and was serving his third four-year term. The county Republican Central Committee will name his replacement.
