Delphi retains Bacon Bowl skillet

Photo provided Delphi narrowly defeated Carroll, 122 to 118, in the high school Battle of the Books on Feb. 25.

The sixth annual competition was held at Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School. Delphi has won the Bacon Bowl and traveling skillet for the fourth year in a row.

Battle of the Books began on Feb. 22 with local competitions at the two schools. The winning teams then competed three days later to determine the county winner.

The local and county contests consisted of 150 questions based on the 10 books that each team read. The competitions involved about 250 high school students who had been reading and studying since the kickoff in October.

Photo provided Books were purchased from a Gifted and Talented Grant at Carroll and at Delphi from a DCSC Foundation Grant, Carroll County REMC Operation Round-Up Grant, and funding from Psi Iota Xi and Indiana Packers Corporation. Prizes were provided by Delphi Public Library Friends and Dairy Queen.

The middle school competition, the Bacon Bits Battle of the Books, began at the school level March 9 and will end with the county competition March 15 at Delphi.
